What is LSI Keywords?

Latent Semantic Indexing or LSI Keywords, originates from a technique applied in natural language processing, initially used to help computers understand human language.

It was later adopted in the digital marketing field to improve search engine optimization (SEO). It was discovered that search engines like Google use LSI to understand the context around keywords on a webpage and offer more relevant search results.

LSI Keywords refers to a collection of keywords that are related to a main keyword. They don't necessarily mean synonyms of the main keyword but refers to words that usually go together with the main keyword. They provide search engines a better context of your content, giving them more clues about what the web page is all about. This helps in elevating the page's ranking on search engine results, thereby driving more traffic to the webpage.

Examples of LSI Keywords

  1. Imagine you've written a blog about coffee. The main keyword might be "Coffee Benefits". LSI Keywords would include "Health benefits of coffee", "Pros of drinking coffee", "Can coffee boost your metabolism?" or "Coffee and cognitive health".

  2. For a webpage about "Digital Cameras", LSI Keywords could be "Best digital cameras", "Digital camera reviews", "Digital camera specifications", or "How to choose a digital camera".

  3. Say, a fitness blog's primary keyword is "Weight Loss". Associated LSI Keywords might include "Healthy weight loss tips", "Exercises for weight loss", "Best diets for weight loss", or "Weight loss success stories".

  4. An online shoe store can incorporate LSI keywords like "Running shoes", "Sports footwear", "High heels", "Men's formal shoes" around the main keyword "Shoes".

  5. For a food blog focusing on "Italian Cuisine", LSI Keywords might be "Popular Italian dishes", "Easy Italian recipes", "History of Italian Cuisine", or "Best Italian restaurants".

Marketing Tactics Similar to LSI Keywords

Semantic SEO: This approach aims to optimize content based on meaning and context, rather than specific keywords. Like LSI Keywords, it leverages the way search engines understand the natural language to rank web pages higher.

Long Tail Keywords: These are more specific, longer phrases that visitors are likely to use when they're closer to the point of purchase or when using voice search. They have less competition, therefore show higher conversion rate like LSI Keywords.

Keyword Density: It is the percentage of times a keyword is used on a page compared to the total number of words on the page. Keyword density can be a factor in SEO, but it's important to balance this with the use of LSI Keywords to avoid keyword stuffing.

Keyword Research: It’s a practice used by search engine optimization professionals to find actual search terms people enter into search engines for creating new content. This is the first and a crucial step towards utilizing LSI Keywords.
