About the Author

Jan Abbott

Following a career of working with young people, Jan Abbott is currently living her dream of residing in Hawaii where she pursues her passions of snorkeling and body boarding. She also fosters feral cats and is one of many individuals supporting and promoting spay/neuter programs and responsible pet ownership in Hawaii. She earned her undergraduate degree in education from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota and her Master's degree from Northern Arizona University. Jan taught primarily fifth grade for nearly thirty years in Flagstaff, Arizona. She remarked, "I consider ten and eleven year olds to be the most delightful people ever created." Writing has been an integral part of Jan's life, and she has taken a number of creative writing courses and workshops. The joys of her life are the main characters in Sundance and the Bully.

About the Illustrator

Bret Berndes

Born and raised in San Diego, Bret started drawing at a very young age. He pursued this talent from grade school to high school where he discovered his interest in graphic animation. He then took several animation classes and landed a job at Sea World as a caricature artist. After high school, Bret went on to pursue his ambitions in graphic animation at California State University, Fullerton. He is now a sophomore majoring in animation. In hopes of one day being successful in the art field, he is also currently working with a partner on designs for clothing. Sundance and the Bully is his first illustration work in children's books.
