Playbooks® Invited to Participate in Three Elementary School Assemblies during Literacy Week
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA (March 10, 2010) – The Wagon Wheel PTA presents its 2010 Literacy Week March 15-19th at Wagon Wheel Elementary School in Trabuco Canyon, CA. The Playbooks® Reader’s Theater Company has been invited to share its reading enrichment materials and curriculum, and to participate in three assemblies for students in Kindergarten through sixth grade on March 15th.
Playbooks® Reader’s Theater stories are read like plays, but without memorization, props, costumes, or a stage. They come in a unique, patented format, with each story role targeting a specific reading level so that students of various ages can read the same story together, which builds their fluency with reading role models. Each reader’s lines also appear in a different color, making it easier for students to follow their character roles, assess how much they will read, and be prepared for their next turn to speak. This helps to create a sense of ownership and security in their role which leads to increased reading confidence.
The assemblies at Wagon Wheel Elementary will feature Playbooks® author, Kelli Casas, who has written the popular stories, A Tumblestone Tune and Stone Soup. In addition to being a published author, Kelli is a professional theatrical performer and has been seen on stages around the world as well as on numerous television series. The assemblies will include Kelli talking to the students about the process of writing a Reader’s Theater story, will involve entertaining improvisational exercises with audience participation, and will show the students how being a star can make reading fun!
Wagon Wheel Elementary School’s PTA strives to enrich each student’s education with programs like Playbooks® Reader’s Theater. The PTA Board works closely with the principal and teacher representatives to ensure that their funds are utilized in meeting current state curriculum and standards. The PTA believes in funding book fairs and events such as Literacy Week in order to reach the goals of the teachers for their students and provide a fun learning experience.
