Playbooks Reader’s Theater publishes third story in The Great Rhyme Travel Machine series focusing on Ecology and Saving the Planet!

March 16, 2009, Ladera Ranch, CA Playbooks, Inc. announces the return of the 'rhyme traveler' friends with the third installment in the series, The Great Rhyme Travel Machine Presents: Saving Planet Earth. Written by elementary school reading specialist, Gregory Brown, a North Carolina teacher, this creative and adventurous series features children who create an invention fair project that somehow magically works as a time travel machine when special rhyming messages are read from a glowing book. It transports famous people from the past right into their classroom. The twist is that these famous people are still children themselves! Students are inspired by these young heroes as they figure out who they are, how they affected history, and how they can help the students of today solve a specific problem they are currently facing.

The magic continues in this new adventure when young protectors of nature, John Denver and Rachel Carson are transported through the machine into the classroom to inspire students to work together to share a global message through a catchy and creative song called “I’m Going Green.” The book set comes with a DVD hosted by zany, entertaining singer and songwriter, Isaiah Ireys, who uses silly antics and humor to present questions from students to the author and illustrator of the story, and to help students get excited about doing their own part to save the planet. Also included on the DVD is a recording of Isaiah singing the song written by Brown with several kids using on-screen graphics and lyrics to help students in the classroom learn the song in a fun and engaging way. A trailer of this enchanting DVD movie is available at http://playbooks.com/video/ViewVideoRhymeTravelTrailer.html. Reader’s Theater is the simple act of reading a story like a play without memorization, props, or a stage. The Great Rhyme Travel Machine series has six character roles, and as with all Playbook® stories, some roles are easier and some are more difficult allowing students to be reading role models for each other. The roles in this story cover four different reading levels with each appearing in a different color of text.

Reader’s Theater is an approved, and the most popular, form of “Repeated Guided Oral Reading;” the best proven method for building reading fluency. Reader’s Theater gives teachers the opportunity to bring Theater Arts to the classroom as a practical daily and weekly activity that builds reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence and ultimately improves test scores.
