Playbooks® Reader’s Theater Helped Bring Stories to Life at the Mission Viejo Reader’s Festival

September 14, 2009(An engaging human interest story) Playbooks® Reader’s Theater showcased its unique Reader’s Theater materials and a few of its most popular authors at the 1st annual Mission Viejo Reader’s Festival this past Saturday. Elementary school reading specialist and Teacher of the Year winner, Gregory Brown, who was a highlight of the local exhibitors, traveled from North Carolina to Mission Viejo to transport children and their imaginations through a life-size model of The Great Rhyme Travel Machine, the theme of his story series published by Playbooks, Inc. Kids were able to choose one of the famous characters featured in the book series, such as Amelia Earhart and Thomas Edison, enter the machine, don a costume of the character found inside, and come out the other end to have their picture taken with the author. Playbooks, Inc. then provided the picture in a fun, framed image and emailed it to the child’s family. This proved to be a very exciting attraction and parents were thrilled to have their children interact in a fun and educational experience, and to have a memento of their travel through the machine.

Other local authors featured were Dianna Cleveland, Kelli Casas, and Louis Shultz. Each was present to sign copies of their book, take pictures, and interact with the guests. Attendees were thrilled that they could meet the authors up close and personal.

A major highlight of the festival was its main speaker, Henry Winker. Like the Playbooks family, Mr. Winkler has an affinity for improving reading skills in children and young adults. The Playbook® authors were able to meet him and share some ideas and thoughts on the subject during his book signing.

Being a close neighbor of Mission Viejo, Playbooks strives to reach out to the community and spread awareness of how essential it is to build reading comprehension and fluency in children by reading together with expression and enthusiasm. With the U.S. Department of Education’s declaration that reading aloud to children is the single most important thing a parent can do with their children to ensure their future success, Reader’s Theater is a fun method for parents to achieve this, one that they even enjoy themselves.

The unique and patented Playbooks® Reader’s Theater format provides an engaging method for children and adults to take on character roles and bring the story to life with dramatic expression. Memorization is not necessary because Reader’s Theater is designed for informal out-loud reading. Playbooks® Reader’s Theater hopes the Mission Viejo Library festival provided an eye-opening experience for parents about fun ways to read WITH their children. The company will continue to help to increase awareness and dedication to children’s love for reading and parent engagement as well.
