Playbooks® Reader's Theater Comes to Chicago Reading Conference

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA (April 23, 2010)  The International Reading Association (IRA) Annual Convention is to be held April 25-28 in Chicago, and Playbooks® Reader's Theater will be offering its reader's theater implementation workshop and Popcorn and Prizes reception free to attendees. A wide variety of presentations are available at the convention for attendees to choose from, both during the full day IRA agenda as well as separately afterwards. The Playbooks® workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 27 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in room "Regency E" on the second floor of the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place hotel, adjacent to the McCormick Place convention center.

Sessions at the IRA convention inlcude basics on how to teach reading to different age groups and special topics such as the best methods for English language learners and struggling readers. The latest ideas for integrating technology with reading as well as effective assessment strategies for recording student growth are also featured at this year's conference. Playbooks® Reader's Theater curriculum and materials are highly relevant to the issues at hand, being a fluency building tool perfect for advanced readers, struggling readers, and English language learners alike. Reader's theater is also sustainable and measurable, making student progress easy to track.

Attendees will not want to miss Playbooks, Inc.'s popular interactive workshop, which has been highly rated at numerous educational conferences across the country. Reader’s theater is the most engaging and fun form of “Repeated Guided Oral Reading,” the best proven method of building reading fluency. Attendees will receive step by step guidance on how to implement this valuable method in their programs. The workshop will be taught by Dianna Cleveland, who has been a reader’s theater author, developer, and instructor for more than 10 years and is considered to be one of the foremost experts on reader's theater in the country.

Reader’s theater stories are designed to be read aloud like plays, but without memorization, props, costumes, or a stage. Playbooks® Reader’s Theater stories come in a unique color-coded and multi-leveled format. The varying difficulty allows higher level readers to model fluent reading and vocabulary for lower level readers. At the same time, less fluent readers often show a greater aptitude for role-playing and will encourage more creative expression among their classmates. Playbooks® Reader’s Theater continues to grow in popularity and has helped millions of students build reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence in Title I programs and more across the country!
