Playbooks® Invited to Teach Reader’s Theater Workshop at National After School Conference

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA (February 10, 2009) The thirteenth annual Beyond School Hours conference is taking place February 17 -20, 2010 in Jacksonville, Florida, and Playbooks® Reader’s Theater Company will be there to share its reading enrichment materials and curriculum! The conference is designed to provide valuable information on the newest and best methods and educational materials to directors, coordinators, and staff of after school programs across the nation. Playbooks® will be running an exhibit booth as well as presenting a Reader’s Theater Implementation Workshop! Learn more about the conference at http://www.beyondschoolhours.org.

The 90-minute interactive workshop will teach how Reader's Theater is a compelling, engaging and easy-to-implement academic reading activity, and the importance of including the “arts” in after school programs to improve the attitudes of young people toward themselves and each other, which is especially helpful for children with disadvantaged backgrounds. Attendees will learn specific methods for using this valuable form of “Repeated Guided Oral Reading” and will even read a script aloud in small groups to see first-hand how Reader’s Theater breaks down social barriers and makes reading aloud a fun and enriching experience.
Playbooks, Inc.’s highly rated Reader’s Theater workshop has been extremely popular among some of the largest districts in the country and has been seen at other educational conferences. To view more information about workshop content and how to arrange a workshop for your program, visit http://playbooks.com/RTWorkshop.shtml.

Reader's Theater is ideal for before and after school programs because it involves students in an entertaining performing arts activity while meeting academic content standards for reading. Reader’s Theater stories are written like plays with character roles that are read aloud by a group of readers who bring the story to life! Playbooks® Reader’s Theater materials come in a unique, patented format, with each role targeting a specific reading level and appearing in a different color of text so that students of various ages can read the same story together, each at their own ability level. No memorization, props, costumes, or stage are needed, making implementation practical for any after school program.
