Playbooks® Reader’s Theater Returns to Best Out-of-School Time Conference (BOOST)
For Fourth Year
Ladera Ranch, CA (April 22, 2011) – Playbooks® is bringing its widely celebrated reading enrichment materials and reader’s theater training expertise to the BOOST Conference for the fourth year in a row. The conference is taking place in Palm Springs, CA April 27-30 and will draw one of the largest conference attendance rates of before and after school staff and professionals in the nation. Attendees will gain information on the latest supported practices in after school programming through innovative workshops, presentation sessions, and exhibitors.
Playbooks® Reader’s Theater will be in Exhibitor Booth #127 as well as leading a Reader’s Theater Workshop on the official conference schedule, to take place Friday, April 29 at 1:15 P.M. The session will be taught by Dianna Cleveland, who is considered to be one of the foremost experts on reader’s theater in the nation. The well-known and loved workshop will train program staff and directors in step-by-step implementation for a successful reader’s theater program for building fluency. Interactive session provides first hand experience practicing the procedures in small groups and even reading a reader’s theater script! Playbooks® will also host an Inspiration Station, a small table group discussion of the benefits of reader’s theater as the ideal reading enrichment activity, to be held Thursday, April 28 at 10:00 A.M.
Reader's theater is quickly becoming a standard part of curriculum for many after school programs because it is an ideal way to include reading enrichment while keeping students’ attention with a fun social activity! Reader’s theater stories are written like plays with character roles that are read aloud by a group of readers who bring the story to life! Participating in reader’s theater involves students in social interactive reading, where they are engaging in authentic conversational dialogue using appropriate emotion and expression while building their reading skills. Reader’s theater is practically the only way to achieve this type of social reading experience.
Playbooks® Reader’s Theater materials come in a unique, patented format, with each role targeting a specific reading level and appearing in a different color of text so that students of various ages can read the same story together, each at their own ability level. No memorization, props, costumes, or stage are needed, so it’s simple for any after school program to get started.
