Rancho Santa Margarita, CA (October 30, 2009) - Playbooks® Reader's Theater is ready to head to the American Association of School Librarians National Conference as an approved exhibitor of entertaining and educational books for building reading fluency. The conference will take place on November 4-8, 2009 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The conference is designed to equip school librarians and media specialists with solid and new ways to uphold the learning standards and expand student learning. Resources provided include presentations on current aspects of school media, including the power of digital tools and content, educational board games, how to evaluate books and products, and the best new strategies for instilling in children a love of reading!

Attendees will discover the inspiration of The Great Rhyme Travel Machine Playbook® series with a life-size model of the mysterious invention for which the stories are named. In this fascinating saga, famous kids from the past are magically transported to a modern day sixth grade classroom to teach several students their potential to achieve and contribute something valuable to the world.

Costumes of famous characters featured in the series, including Amelia Earhart and George Washington Carver, will be stocked inside the machine to demonstrate the concept. At past events, children have enjoyed emerging from the Great Rhyme Travel Machine as their favorite famous characters to have their pictures taken with the author! Learn more about this exciting series at: http://www.playbooks.com/rhymetravelfeature.html.

Rhyme Travel author Gregory Brown will be present to sign books and share information about his exciting stories, including his newest title, Questionella and the Perfect Prince: A Fairy Tale of Multiple Choices, published by Playbooks® Reader's Theater. This enchanting story teaches a fun and effective test-taking strategy while following the journey of a young maiden seeking a scholarship to the University of Think-a-lot as the prince's study partner. Mr. Brown, a reading specialist, recently earned the Teacher of the Year award for Wayne County, North Carolina. As he announced the winner, Superintendent Steven Taylor cited Brown's outstanding philosophy of "allowing each child to shine and feel important." This goal is certainly consistent with Mr. Brown's writing and use of Reader's Theater plays that give students the confidence to perform and improve their expressive reading skills. Reader’s Theater stories are similar to plays, with each character's dialogue forming a different reading role. When students bring a story to life by reading aloud in a small group, they are highly engaged in an activity that satisfies content standards and improves fluency. Playbooks' patented format features color coded dialogue text and character roles of multiple reading levels so students of varying fluency levels can read the same story together. Reader’s Theater is continually increasing in popularity as a teaching tool because it is fun, effective, and easy to implement.
